Everyone is encouraged to write a respectful letter to
Rutgers University President Richard McCormick explaining
why you oppose the recent decision to drop the Men’s
Varsity Crew from varsity status after the 2007 season.

Some points to help you with your letter:

* Established in 1864, Crew is the oldest Rutgers sport

* Many Olympians, National Team members, and Rutgers Hall of Fame Inductees

* Many great crews over the years. To name just a few recent successes:
Henley final 2003, Varsity 4 2nd at IRA 2005, Durand Cup 2006

* High GPA of rowers

* Character building, loyalty, team work, etc.

* Lowest cost per athlete

* Rowing Alumni contribute generously to crew and toother Rutgers priorities
including libraries, academic scholarships, and new facilities.

* Success of alumni in later life

* The essence of what college sport is about, opportunities for students
to compete at the highest level

* Men’s Crew alumni funds greatly support the Women’s Crew
and have done so for 30 years.

* New Jersey is now the permanent home of the Olympic
and National Team Training Center, United States Rowing Association,
and the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta
